13 ideas for Valentine's Day for Long Distance Relationship

The lovers’ day is getting closer! There are only a few days left to celebrate your love and you haven’t come up with any ideas for Valentine’s Day for long distance relationship ?

And just because you are physically separated from your partner doesn’t mean you should ignore 14 of February.

What will your sweetheart think if you don’t plan anything?

Do you think it would not question your feelings?

Valentine’s Day is celebrated all over the world. And that makes sense!

And distance is no excuse. There are dozens of activities to do away from each other.

In this article, I present you 13 of them.

They have the particularity to be romantic, cumulative and especially perfectly adapted to the distance.

Doing only 2 or 3 activities from this list will make Valentine’s Day special in your long distance relationship.

1) Ideas for Valentine Day's for Long Distance Relationship: Dress up like you're going out

Girls: Get out your best outfit and makeup!
Guys: it’s time to put on a shirt and get your hair done!

If you’re dressing as usual on Valentine’s Day, it’s because you consider the day mundane.

Picture this:

You schedule your video call with your sweetheart.

You warn yourself in advance: « tonight, we’re getting dressed up! »

Your phone rings:
You slide your finger to start the video call, and you discover your love with an elegant, refined outfit that highlights him/her.

The date hasn’t even started yet and you’re already smiling!
The compliments are going to multiply to the point of making you blush (or the little mockery if you’re like me and you don’t know how to wear a shirt!)

And the best part is that it will add a little natural excitement to your date.

It’s a perfect way to start a long distance relationship date and make Valentine’s Day special

2) Give your room a romantic feel

a pack of romantic candle

Okay, you’re all dressed up. How about taking it a step further by decorating your room?

If you think it’s too complicated, you can simply decorate the background behind you!

This will surprise your lover and he will see that you have made efforts to make this February 14 unique.

Here are some ideas in bulk:

  • Blow up heart-shaped balloons
  • Cut out letters from paper and form a sentence
  • Lighting candles
  • If you have a connected light bulb, you can light your room in pink (or with a warm color)
  • The flag of your partner’s country

    Romanticism and you makes 2?

So play with that: why not put a funny object in the decor.

    • A bow and arrow to remind you of Cupid
    • A candle to remind you of all the single people
    • A picture of you making a face

This is a departure from the usual idea of Valentine’s Day, but it’s a great idea to surprise your partner.

3) Ideas for Valentine's Day in a Long Distance Relationship: Prepare or have a romantic meal delivered

At this point, you’re all dressed up and you’ve decorated your home in February 14th colors.

The next step is logical!

I am sure that like me, you associate Valentine’s Day with a romantic meal: a good restaurant, a warm setting, candles, romance…

a couple drink wine during valentine's day

At a distance, it’s difficult to go to a restaurant, as you can guess!
You can always go to a restaurant on your own and make a video call, but from experience I know that long-distance couples are afraid to do so, especially because of the look of others.

Here, we’ll make it simpler:

Why not cook the same meal together from a distance?

Or if, like me, cooking is not your strong point, have a meal delivered and enjoy it together?

It’s 2023: catering companies are adapting to Valentine’s Day and many of them are offering romantic meals on delivery!

You can even go one step further:

You each order a meal for your partner without telling him/her what it is!

This is typically the kind of Valentine’s Day ideas for a long distance relationship that will drive your partner crazy with joy.

4) Arrange a Virtual Date from a distance

The best way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is to have a date.
You can plan an evening or just a few hours together, but it’s important to do it ahead of time.

And no, distance is not an excuse. With Kyomi, when we were still thousands of miles apart, we regularly went on dates.

Yes, it takes organization, but it’s totally possible!

By planning ahead, you’ll have time to research and come up with ideas for Valentine’s Day activities. This can be difficult if you don’t know what those needs are, so be sure to talk about them before you make plans!

If possible, try not to throw an overly expensive party, even if your partner is paying for everything! It’s important to keep it fair between you.

Often, long-distance couples underestimate the power of virtual dating.

There are two reasons for this:

 1) They think that there is nothing to do from a distance. They lack creativity

 2) They think that because of the distance, the date will not be as exciting as in real life.

The funny thing is that it’s often couples who have never tried to go on a date that say this most often.

Never underestimate a scheduled multi-hour video call with your partner!

Since you’re long-distance, opportunities to create unique and emotional moments are rare.

Date nights allow for that.
There’s too much more to both the short term and the long term.

If you’re interested in the idea of dating, I’ve created a Virtual Date Box specifically designed for long distance couples.

5) Plan a big romantic gesture

Big romantic gestures are the best. They show your partner that you love him and that no matter what happens, you’re always thinking about him.

Planning a grand romantic gesture takes a lot of time, effort and thought.

Not every long-distance couple has the opportunity to plan such a gesture, but if you can do it, I highly recommend it!

You’ll prove to your partner that you’ve made your long-distance relationship a priority and that the miles between you don’t scare you. On the contrary!

Here are some examples:

  • Write a poem, a song, or a romantic and personalized tribute
  • Deliver a message from your favorite star
  • Make a difficult effort to show your love (like a GPS drawing)
romantic idea to do in distance during valentine's day

The idea is to choose a romantic gesture that will touch your partner’s sensitivity.

For example with my girlfriend, I would choose to write her a long love letter rather than a song or poem.
I know she will be more sensitive to it.

If you can’t plan a big romantic gesture, don’t worry:
There are plenty of other ways to show how much your partner means to you on February 14.

The first is to send your partner a beautiful quote of love

That’s what you’ll find out in the rest of this article.

6) Watch a romance movie together for Valentine's Day

A classic idea, but one that fits right in with this article.

You can easily watch movies together on popular streaming platforms: Netflix, Amazon Video, Disney+, HBO…

With Teleparty, you can sync your movie! When one of you pauses, it pauses for your partner too. There’s even a built-in chat!

easiest way to watch movie from a distance during valentine's day

It’s free and really convenient!

It avoids the 3… 2… 1… that you usually do or sending an express message to pause because you have to go to the bathroom

7) Romantic ideas for Valentine's Day idea for Long Distance Relationship: Offer a gift

Sending a package to your partner is a great activity idea to show your love from a distance.

The contents of the package should be meaningful and thoughtful, such as a copy of their favorite book or movie, a small stuffed animal and candy or pictures of you (you can even put your perfum on the gift!)

DIY gifts are always romantic.
For example, you can create a photo album, a short video of your best moments (whether long distance or on your reunion!) or even a personalized package.

If you’re looking for something fun and thoughtful to send, consider a gift card to their favorite store or restaurant.

This is a great way to show your love from a distance during Valentine’s Day.

You can also turn to dematerialized gifts:
It’s really the best thing for long-distance couples.

You avoid the problems of delays, customs, shipping costs, lost or damaged packages.

Check out the My Sweet LDR shop, you can find some interesting gifts!

8) Relive your best moments together

a woman in a long distance relationship do a videocall for valentine's day

If I look through your phone, I’m sure I’ll find hundreds of photos of your sweetheart: during video calls, when you first met, when she discovered the gift you sent her…

Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to reminisce about your best memories!

And if you’re organized, you can even prepare this in advance.

Send this message to your sweetheart:

« For Valentine’s Day, I propose that we choose 3 moments that marked us in 2022. Then, we’ll find out during our date which ones we chose! »

Personally, I will choose these 3 moments:

  • Our trip to Italy in April 2022
  • The day we broke the distance and got our first apartment
a long distance couple broke the distance and live together
  • Our conversation when we learned that Kyomi’s VISA was accepted and that she could come back to France for 1 year.

Good.

Now that you have a retrospective of your love story, I suggest you to consider the future in the next point!

9) Ideas for Valentine's Day for Long Distance Relationship: Plan your future reunion

a calendar to organize next meeting

This is a must-do activity for long distance couples. This topic of discussion is vital and most importantly it greatly strengthens the bond you have with your sweetheart.

Planning for the future is a great way to show your partner that you are thinking about him and their needs.

However, you should avoid making plans that are too far in the future (for example, our children will be born in 2032).
This can lead to disappointment as things evolve and circumstances change.

Stay in the short and medium term, focusing on what you can do with each other now.

I’m going to ask you a very simple question: do you know when your next reunion is?

If the answer is no, then take the time to discuss it and think about what you can do to get together as soon as possible!

If the answer is yes, then plan your trip! What are you going to do, what restaurant would you like to eat in, are you going to travel?

10) Get to know each other better with a Q&A Game

Covers of the 3 LDR ebooks of questions and answers for bored long distance couples

There’s nothing worse than blank moments in a discussion.

It’s horrible.

When you think you’ve exhausted all your discussion topics and you can’t come up with any new ones.

It sends a strong and dramatic signal that the long-distance relationship is running out of steam.

This is a common problem for long-distance couples who have already spent Valentine’s Day long-distance: yes, the routine is present and well established, and it lets you know.

We went through this with my Peruvian girlfriend.

It wasn’t on February 14, but during the first world lockdown.
I remember it like it was yesterday: I had spent hours on Google, Tiktok, Instagram and Facebook to find new topics to talk about.

To be honest, it was loooong and a few boring!

But I guess you don’t have time for that! So here’s a good shortcut:

> 1095 questions to ask each other in your long-distance relationship.

Yes, this is another product I offer on My Sweet LDR.

It’s even the first one I created because I know that the renewal of discussion topics is a crucial issue for the good health of a long distance relationship.

I have separated them into 3 x 365 questions answering a precise problem each time. I’ll let you discover all this!

Little bonus: I suggest you discover 35 of these 365 questions for free.
They are available in the « FAQ » section at the bottom of each presentation page!

11) Who is the most romantic between you? Take the test

A fun activity to make Valentine’s Day special in your long distance relationship!

Have you ever wondered who is the most romantic between you and your long distance partner?

You can’t agree?

I suggest you to find out in 10 minutes!

Here is a little test where you just have to answer some questions to find out.

Fill it out together, at the same time. Compare your answers, your points of view, your ways of thinking…

I don’t recommend taking online tests all the time, but this one is really fun to do, especially if you’re in a long distance relationship.

The questions are not just for couples who live together.

Some were even written specifically for people in our situation! Like for example:

« You’ve been away from your lover for a month and really miss him/her a lot. How do you express your feelings to him/her? »

12) Relax together by taking a bath

a woman take a bath for valentine's day date

This idea is very subjective.

I think this is an extremely romantic activity idea for Valentine’s Day in a long distance relationship!

But I’m aware that it’s not for everyone: you need a bathtub, space, organization to make a video call, the courage to see yourself undressed…

Make sure you really know your partner first if you’re considering this idea!

I would only recommend doing this if you have been in a relationship for a long time and have already met in real life.

13) Ideas for Valentine's Day for Long Distance Relationship: Turn up the heat with naughty games

illustration of my article about naughty games to do in distance

I had to end this article with a naughty activity idea for Valentine’s Day.

After watching a movie or taking a bath, you should get towards the end of your date.

And concluding this evening with a naughty game can have the effect of fireworks!

The subject should not be taboo. I can see that on my blog.

But don’t worry if you can’t do all of that.

The fact is, no matter what, you’ll find a way to make this day special for your significant other!
